The Airways Experience

Mix with the big boys!

If you've ever wondered what it's like to fly in Class A Airspace at higher altitudes (typically around 8000ft otherwise known as Flight Level 80), then now is your chance.

Not only that, but you'll do it in a complex aircraft (variable pitch propeller, retractable undercarriage), using the appropriate IFR navigation equipment.

You'll see IFR flight planning at first hand, and be briefed accordingly (for about one hour) for the flight and the aircraft.

With hands-on experience, under the watchful guidance of your instructor (yes you can log this time as PU/T), you'll take-off and fly the aircraft to join airways, making use of the autopilot.

From there, an arrival and approach to Single Pilot IR Minimums will be shown (down to approximately 200ft on instruments), before a Missed Approach takes place with VFR recovery to land.

You'll have plenty of opportunity during the one hour five minute flight to get a feel for what this type of flying is like!

See below for further information.

Remember that you are being instructed by an instructor with an enviable reputation for delivering results to you. Our personal objective is to make sure you land with a smile on your face. If you don’t – we haven’t done our job properly.

We can provide the whole experience (including aircraft hire) to you for £299.

If you want to come to us and use your own suitable aircraft (or syndicate, or own club aircraft) the cost for the instruction and IFR approaches will be £180.

Where can I do this experience?

It makes sense for you to come to us to do this experience, since we need to use an IFR equipped complex aircraft, somewhere near controlled airspace, and a suitable IFR equipped airfield.

Which Aircraft can I use?

We normally provide the aircraft for this experience.

However, if you have a suitable aircraft (you'd need to check with us first), we may be able to offer this experience in your own or group aeroplane.
